Description:
Amazing Volunteer Opportunity
Imagine, living and volunteer teaching in paradise with eager students who are passionate about their studies! Spend your days teaching and your spare time diving the world's second largest barrier reef, swimming off your own private dock or just relaxing in a hammock by the sea. Ocean Academy is in it's third year of operation and is offering a rare opportunity for dedicated volunteers to teach the 25 high school students currently enrolled in the island's first non-profit high school (Forms I, II, III = Grades 8,9,10).
Caye Caulker is a small island off the coast of Belize, Central America. Before Ocean Academy opened it's doors, local students had to take a long boat ride to the often dangerous capital city to attend school. The cost to travel to school was more than most families could afford and so students were forced to drop out of school after grade 8. This was all changed when two North American travelers came to Caye Caulker and decided to open Ocean Academy.
Ocean Academy is a non-profit community high school that operates through individual donations, grants and volunteers.
