CIEE sends service-learning enthusiasts participating in the Teach Immersion Chile program to the O'Higgins (6th) Region of Chile. Work and live side by side with locals, changing the lives of young students and embracing the cultural differences that you both share. The highlight of this program is working with rural communities off the beaten tourist trail where foreigners are a rarity. Additionally, the homestay experience truly allows our participants to experience life como un chileno beyond the classroom.
You have the option of four or six month programs teaching elementary-aged students in rural Chile.
Highlights:
* Placement with stipend at a Chilean public school in the 4th or 6th Regions
* Accommodations and meals with a host family
* A monthly stipend of 85,000 Chilean pesos
* Online Spanish courses before you depart and teaching and program guides to help you plan and prepare
* Optional ~ Pre-departure TEFL certification
* Airport transfer on designated arrival date
* CIEE Orientation in Santiago, including:
- Classes on TEFL theory and practice, Chilean Spanish, the Chilean educational system, cross-cultural training, and cultural activities
- Accommodations and most meals
- Round trip transportation from orientation to your regional placement
* An all expense paid orientation in the 5th or 6th Regions
* Assistance obtaining a Temporary Residence Visa and Chilean I.D. card
* International comprehensive medical insurance policy provided using Mondial Insurance international
* 24 hour in-country emergency support services via the CIEE Santiago office and via the regional support staff of the Ministerio de Educacion
* Program certification by the Chilean Ministerio de Educacion

Qualifications / Skills Needed:
You do not need to be a teacher with extensive international experience to apply! Whether you're major was art history, zoology, or anything in between; if you have a positive attitude and solid work ethic and a genuine interest in education, your academic background will serve you well in the classroom - this time from the teacher's side of the desk.
CIEE and the Chilean Ministry of Education are looking for well-rounded applicants who are independent, adventurous, and who adapt well to new situations. Participants must be able to expect the unexpected and thrive in a changing environment! It's essential that participants are self-motivated, responsible, and recognize that their first priority is to their school and their teaching assignment. 110% commitment to the program is essential.
Basic eligibility requirements for the Teach Immersion in Chile program include:
* A bachelor's degree in any major
* English as a first language or you use English every day. Applicants must have received their K-12 or undergraduate education in the English Language.
* At minimum, basic Spanish skills (orientation is in Spanish!). Preference will be given to candidates with strong Spanish language abilities.
* Interest in Chilean culture and developing countries
* A high level of commitment, responsibility and flexibility
* A spirit of public service
